The Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest surviving written story in the world, was written in cunieform script on clay tablets some 4000 years ago in Mesopotamia. It tells of Gilgamesh and his adventures and finally of the journey he made in search to eternal life.

I set out, through drawing, to realise an approach to the complex, multi layered text of The Epic of Gilgamesh, one that replicates and echoes both the journey Gilgamesh took in search of eternal life and the one taken by the clay tablets from riverbank to museum.
